Our big day: Amy and Ryan

<< View more real weddings

Amy and Ryan opted for an al fresco big day at Eastwell Manor, Ashford, on 25th August, 2011

Amy and Ryan met while Amy was working at a traditional Irish pub in Spain and Ryan was on a golfing holiday. “The moment he walked through the door he took my breath away,” says Amy.

Ryan adds: “I kept returning to the same bar every night and when I finally kissed her I knew she was the one.”

Ryan popped the question while the couple were having a picnic in Greenwich, London. He explains: “As we were talking Amy asked if I thought I would love her forever, so I decided it would be the perfect moment to get down on one knee.” Read on for Amy's account of the big day…

We said our vows in the gardens at Eastwell Manor. We fell in love with the stunning surroundings and beautiful backdrops.

The night before the wedding we stayed at a hotel with both of our families. We were so excited for the day ahead.

I found my dream gown by Provonias while searching online. I printed it out and spotted the exact same dress in the first shop I went into.

Ryan wore a brown tailored suit with a gold-coloured waistcoat and cravat.

I had four bridesmaids, my friends Nina, Emma, Alicia and Natalie, who wore maxi dresses in a mocha hue. My two flowergirls, Lacie and Scarlett and my mum Paulette, who was also my maid-of-honour, wore white dresses.

“I had two best men, my brother Joel and my best friend Mark. They made fantastic speeches.” – Ryan

“My uncle Tony wrote a speech and emailed it over from Australia. My brother Joel read it out at the wedding breakfast.” – Ryan

My bouquet comprised faux lily of the valley and roses in a mocha shade to match the bridesmaids' dresses.

Ryan is a graphic designer so we created our own invitations and place names.

Our cake comprised miniatures with a top cutting tier.

We enjoyed planning our wedding even though it was slightly challenging at times with our newborn baby, Frankie.

We opted for a summer menu for the wedding breakfast, including a barbecue complete with chicken, steak, salmon, salad, rice, pasta and potatoes.

My brother Michael was the usher. He organised the music for the ceremony.

It was amazing to see how the whole day came together. It felt like such an achievement.

My favourite moment of the day was walking down the aisle, seeing Ryan's reaction and saying our vows.

We went to Las Vegas for our honeymoon. It was a great mixture of relaxing and sightseeing.

Readers' poll

Who cares more about your big day - you or your hubby-to-be?

Definitely me, all he has to do is turn up!

He'll be doing the 'man stuff' such as suits and cars but he hasn't a clue about flowers.

I've been surprised by how involved he wants to be - but the details are my domain.

He's the original groomzilla - he has an opinion about everything.
