Blooming trendy

Now that the summer wedding season is in full swing, florist Desmond Talbot Ltd has shared insider tips on which flowers and styles will feature in the hottest bouquets.

Desmond Talbot's three fabulous trends for the ultimate posies include the following suggestions - read on to see if your arrangements are in vogue...

Give your bouquet a touch of bling
The standard and most popular type of bouquet is hand-tied, where the flowers and stems are gathered together and wrapped in wide satin ribbon. Brides who want a more glamorous display should choose beads, brooches, jewel pins, pearls, and crystals or rhinestones to lift the plain ribbon that ties the stems together. If you want a more rustic and natural look incorporate feathers, berries, herbs and succulents like kumquats and small lemons or limes - this will give the bouquet an amazing scent too.

It's au revoir to the sweet rose
Whilst the rose continues to be the most popular and traditional flower, lilies, peonies, hydrangeas, tulips and orchids represent on trend choices this summer. Arrangements with a more casual, 'just-picked from the garden' feel, are set to replace the more tightly-bound and structured shapes of previous seasons.

Hot pink is the new white
Bride are becoming incredibly bold in their choice of colour. Whilst the white and cream monochrome bouquet is still in high demand, summer couples are increasingly opting for vibrant flowers in pink and purple shades. These strong colours will photograph beautifully as they will be offset against the often white or cream gown. Some of the best flowers to consider include the peony, hydrangeas and orchids.

Readers' poll

'To veil or not to veil?' That is the question...

Of course - cathedral-length train all the way for me!

I'll be wearing a traditional veil in the day but taking it off post-dinner

I'm donning a short '50s-style birdcage veil

Not for me - I'd rather not have another thing to worry about in the photos!
